Following the most recent Nintendo Direct, many fans have been delighted by the news that the Mario Strikers series is making a return in its first Switch game. If you’re keen to add this wacky Mario football game to your collection once it comes out, you’ll be pleased to hear that Mario Strikers Battle League pre-orders are now available.

When Super Mario Strikers game came out in 2005, fans were drawn to its new approach to the Mario series. While Super Mario games can seem a little bit by the numbers at times, this one was very different. With its new artwork style and unusually violent gameplay (by Mario standards, at least), Super Mario Strikers became a memorable departure from the series’ typical offering.

The last Mario Strikers game was released on the Wii in 2007 and many thought that the series was dead, but it looks like they were wrong. Mario Strikers Battle League looks as though it’s going to be a real return to form for the series, with the trailer showcasing some of the characteristic over-the-top violence that people loved about the earlier games, including the electric fence that surrounds the pitch, which we saw Luigi being shoved into.

Next Level Games, who brought us Luigi’s Mansion 3, has returned to develop this new game, so it’s safe to say that the series is in safe hands. Outside of the initial trailer, we’ve seen very little of the game so far (fingers crossed the Kremling goalies show up eventually), but it’s already looking pretty great and the game is already available for pre-order, with its release scheduled for June 10 2022.

If you want to have the game ready to go and installed on your Switch on day one, then you’ll want to pre-order it through the Nintendo Store. To be honest, it’s a lot nicer not having to worry about switching cartridges around all the time anyway.

Still, if you don’t mind having to swap cartridges and you love being able to look at your Switch collection on the shelves, then you’re going to want to go for the physical copy. You can find links to all of the retailers giving physical pre-orders below.
