Nintendo confirmed today a brand new batch of Mega Drive games for its Nintendo Switch Online service, including Nintendo Switch Online Sonic Spinball. The latest chunk of classic titles includes three retro picks, with the hedgehog’s take on pinball leading the pack.
So what other games are joining after Nintendo Switch Online Sonic Spinball? Space Harrier II is also dropping on the NSO service today, the sequel to the arcade hit and one of the first titles released for the Mega Drive in Japan. The third game to join the service today is Shining Force II, a tactical RPG released in 1993 in Japan, often lauded as one of the best RPGs ever made.
Sonic Spinball is also a beloved classic Mega Drive title, taking the very obvious idea of turning Sonic and his ball form into a pinball. Sonic must explore Robotnik’s island, beat bosses through nothing but pinball prowess, and escape with his life. It’s a tough but rewarding game, and there’s a great two-player high score mode that my Dad still beats me at to this day. When is Sonic Spinball coming to NSO?
Sonic Spinball hit Nintendo Switch Online today, 22 April, 2022. Alongside this title is Space Harrier II and Shining Force II – all are available to play for members of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service.
