Papers Please crosses the border to mobile next month

Passport-checking narrative puzzler from Lucas Pope, creator of Return of the Obra Dinn, is coming to mobile next month on the Papers Please mobile release date

Two phones lay flat next to each other with the game Papers Please running. on the left is the title screen, showing the Soviet propaganda-style poster and menu options. On the right is mid-game, showing a passport laid out, a pixel-art character, and other menu options.

Eight years after its PC release, Papers Please is coming to iOS and Android in a bespoke version from Lucas Pope, creator of Return of the Obra Dinn. While there has technically been an iOS version this whole time, Pope has made adjustments for the game to better fit smaller devices.

The game puts you in the shoes of an immigration officer, checking passports at a border-crossing post. As you’ll find out on the Papers Please mobile release date, scheduled for August 5, the game explores themes of authority and control, and it develops far beyond its simple puzzle premise.

For fans of Return of the Obra Dinn, Papers Please is an easy recommendation, showcasing Lucas Pope’s skills at taking a simple game mechanic and expanding it far beyond. It’s one of my favourite games ever, so you better go and play it, ok? Good, anyway, check out more details below, or our Live a Live review for something a little different.

When is the Papers Please mobile release date?

The Papers Please mobile release date is set for August 5, 2022. Creator Lucas Pope said in a tweet, “I did my best to make it work comfortably on such small screens”, so we can expect a bespoke version to take on the go. Check out the announcement tweet below.

We’ve got lots more beyond the Papers Please mobile release date, too, like our Xenoblade Chronicles 3 preview, full of all our impressions on the upcoming RPG.
