Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Wiglett reinvents the beach body

Friendship ended with Diglett, now Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Wiglett is my best friend ahead of the release of the next Pokémon game on Nintendo Switch

It’s that time of year again, with the hype surrounding a new generation of monsters reaching fever pitch ahead of the impending Pokémon Scarlet and Violet release date for Nintendo Switch. As usual, the Pokémon Company are keeping things exciting by slowly releasing a trickle of new Pokémon that we’re set to meet in Paldea, and with Wiglett, we’ve got another winner.

Yes, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Wiglett is the latest Pokémon reveal for the upcoming catch ‘em all title. Joe Merrick of Serebii was the first to break the news of Wiglett’s wonderful debut, with a clip from a Pokémon webinar revealing the monster for the first time.

Now I know what you’re thinking – “that’s a white Diglett with a clown nose” – well, it’s not. Despite the clear similarities, Wiglett is, in fact, a completely different species to Diglett, rather than a regional variant, making this wiggly worm-like creature one of the few non-Pokémon Scarlet and Violet starters or legendary Pokémon we’ve met in the build-up to the high-speed Paldean adventure.

If you check out the video below, courtesy of Serebii, you can witness the discovery of Wiglett by what sounds like a Pokémon expedition team. Even these explorers believe the monster on the beach to be a Diglett until they get a little closer and spot the clear differences between the two. What this Wiglett might evolve into is anyone’s guess, but it wouldn’t be a surprise for it to be very different to Dugtrio, Diglett’s three-headed evolution.
