Sidebar Games’ new patch ‘blocks’ Sports Story hidden dev room

After Sports Story's surprise 2022 launch, its hidden dev room revealed a troubled development. But a recent patch has 'blocked' access to the room

Sidebar Games surprised us all at the end of last year by surprise releasing Sports Story, the long-awaited Nintendo Switch indie sequel to Golf Story. The game received less than positive reviews due to its various bugs and rushed storyline, but one feature that caught everyone’s attention was the Sports Story hidden dev room.

Fans found this hidden room by glitching out of bounds in Len’s store and were surprised to say the least at what they found there. The characters in the room call themselves the ‘developers of the video game’ and dialogue includes complaints about adding additional features instead of fixing the bugs in the game.

Sports Story just received a patch which claims to have blocked players from accessing the area, as well as fixing some other bugs. However, some people are managing to make it back to the hidden room, and are finding that the dialogue has been changed.

The new dialogue paints a much different picture of the development environment at Sidebar Games, with one character saying, “our staff are all well-rested, well-fed, and their self-esteem is skyrocketing. I can assure you, things are very much under control here! I promise.”

Sidebar Games are yet to comment on the controversial secret dev rooms inclusion, but have clearly acknowledged its existence in the 1.0.4 patch notes and gone to the effort to make changes to it.
