Square Enix has announced a Star Ocean The Second Story R release date, bringing a 2.5D remake of the 1998 original to Nintendo Switch in November, likely adding to the list of best Switch RPGs when the time comes. The remake has all-new character illustrations by series veteran Yukihiro Kajimoto and a rearranged soundtrack by original composer Motoi Sakuraba.
The original RPG was the first game in the Star Ocean series released outside of Japan, and was received well, with an 80/100 on Metacritic. Beyond the updated graphics, there are also three new difficulty modes for the remake: “Earth, which provides a standard experience, Galaxy for those looking for a more satisfying challenge, and Universe for seasoned players looking to put their skills to the ultimate test.”
Folks looking to jump into the story of Claude and Rena’s adventure can also pre-order to get some bonus digital content. There’s also a collector’s edition, which features the game and a box of goodies, including the original soundtrack, an art book, and a mini acrylic stand.
