Xiaomi’s POCO C61 launch shows off new budget Android

Xiaomi has announced the POCO C61, a new handset from the gaming sub-brand, bringing with it a low price and big camera.

Xiaomi’s POCO C61 launch is here, with the company’s gaming-focused brand revealing a striking design, big camera, and excellent price – at least in India. While the specs may not shock any high-end users, the handset is currently on offer for ₹6,999 in India; that’s less than $85 currently.

Of course, if the POCO C61 does get a global launch, which is yet to be announced, the price will likely increase for other markets. Still, with respectable specs (via GSMArena) such as a Mediatek Helio G36 chipset, up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage, and a 6.7-inch LCD running at 90Hz (plus a fingerprint sensor), it’s a solid package for the price.

As per the announcement, Xiaomi’s Poco C61 launches in India today, March 28. One of the most striking things about the phone is the design. With squared-off corners and a flat matte-style back, it’s quite classy. And then there’s the big circular camera bump in the middle of the back of the phone – this houses an 8 MP main camera and, weirdly, a 0.08 MP auxiliary camera.

It’s impossible to tell how performant it is without real-world testing, but it’s a different step from POCO in terms of design, so might signal a different experience for users. If you’re in India, you can buy the POCO C61 now for that low price we mentioned before. It goes back up to ₹8,999 (~$110) after the offer is over.
