Apple TVs Tetris movie lines up its first trailer

Apple TV’s Tetris looks set to retell the legendary game’s story in loud fashion, with Taron Edgerton as the lead, attempting to secure the rights for Nintendo

Apple TV’s Tetris movie is set to come out on March 31, and the first trailer shows off high drama. Taron Edgerton takes the lead role as Henk Rogers, the Dutch videogame designer who secured the rights for Tetris on the Game Boy in the late 1980s.

Directed by Jon S. Baird, known for Stan & Ollie and Filfth, written by Noah Pink, and with Toby Jones co-starring, it’s a wonderful mish-mash of new and old talent. Edgerton says that “the Tetris film is more Social Network than Lego Movie”, though it looks like the final product has a good dose of action to keep things going, too.

The Apple TV synopsis explains that “Tetris tells the unbelievable story of how one of the world’s most popular video games found its way to avid players around the globe.” While it’s loosely “based on a true story, “Tetris” is a Cold War–era thriller on steroids, with double-crossing villains, unlikely heroes and a nail-biting race to the finish.” Looks like all the pieces are falling into place…
