After a short teaser reveal at the Game Awards in 2017, news on Bayonetta 3 went completely radio silent. Fans like you began to wonder if they would ever see the title, when suddenly during a Nintendo Direct in 2021, PlatinumGames finally gave players a glimpse of actual footage from the wicked witch’s next action masterpiece.
The brief trailer gives us an idea of some possible settings for Bayonetta 3, and could even hint towards a timeframe as well… Of course, this is Bayonetta, so the wacky and the weird are very much expected. So, when is the Bayonetta 3 release date?
We’ll surely learn much more about Bayonetta 3 as the year progresses, but right now we only really have one trailer to go on. It’s too early to assume any new or returning features, but hopefully, the development team have some thrilling additions that will make this the best in this wild action fantasy trilogy. How excited are you for Bayonetta 3?
Bayonetta 3 release date speculation
Nintendo recently confirmed that Bayonetta 3 is set to release on October 28, 2022. This was announced alongside a brand new trailer for the game which detailed the new enemy called the Homunculi, and a new antagonist – the feisty witch called Viola.
Is there a Bayonetta 3 trailer?
Nintendo revealed a gameplay trailer for Bayonetta 3 last year, which gives us a glimpse at Bayonetta’s updated design – including a new haircut reminiscent of a young Cereza – alongside new abilities and transformation. We see Bayonetta closing multiple spiked coffins on enemies, unleashing the demon Azagogo, and controlling a giant tarantula demon using her new Demon Masquerade ability as well. If past games are anything to go by, these wild abilities are the tip of the iceberg.
Meanwhile, on July 12, 2022, Nintendo confirmed the Bayonetta 3 release date as well as several new story details in a brand new trailer.
Thanks to the September 2022 Nintendo Direct, we have yet another Bayonetta 3 trailer:
Is Bayonetta 3 coming to Switch?
Bayonetta is a co-production between PlatinumGames and Nintendo, with Nintendo largely funding development costs. That means, just like Bayonetta 2, it’s almost certain that Bayonetta 3 will only be allowed on Nintendo platforms. It’s currently listed for the Nintendo Switch and nowhere else, and we expect it to stay that way.
Is Bayonetta 3 coming to PS4/PS5 or Xbox?
Much like with the answer above, almost certainly no. Nintendo paid to develop these games and is very well known for being strict with their IP. While it allowed The Wonderful 101 to see release on other platforms, that was a very special case, and PlatinumGames had to negotiate with Nintendo to achieve this. Bayonetta is a very valuable IP for Nintendo, so we can’t imagine it will ever allow the games on other platforms.
That’s all the information we currently have on Bayonetta 3, but check back as we’ll update you as soon as we hear anything about our favourite wicked witch with guns for shoes. While the wait for Bayonetta 3 is almost over, we still have a little while to go, so why not check out our guide to the best Switch adventure games and set off on an epic voyage to pass the time.
