Square Enix hosted a livestream with some news about both Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis and the next instalment of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake to mark the 25th anniversary of the original release of FF7. Both the original game’s director Yoshinori Kitase and the remake’s creative director Tetsuya Nomura put out messages for fans of the game.

During the livestream Kitase said that they “are hard at work on Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis,” urging fans to “please look forward to that,” as reported by VGC. Ever Crisis is an upcoming mobile RPG recounting the whole of the original Final Fantasy 7, as well as the movie Advent Children and the spin-off games Before Crisis, Crisis Core, and Dirge of Cerberus.

Kitase continued by saying that “there will be more information” about the second instalment of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake “this year if we can.” When asked if he was sure the reveal would be this year, Kitase said, “well, yeah”, reaffirming that they’re keen to share more information “within the next 12 months” to properly celebrate the 25th anniversary. The first part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake came out in 2020, with no date announced for its sequel.
