A wizard’s never late… but maybe Gollum’s Switch port should be

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum’s Switch release is theoretically still in the works, but following the poor reviews, we’re not too sure it’s going to be good.

Gollum Nintendo Switch - Sauron's big red eye shining from a tower in a red sky at the tiny pesky humanoid goblin that is gollum.

The reviews for the new The Lord of the Rings: Gollum game are here. And, well, how do we put this nicely? Well, we can’t. It’s looking like one of the bigger disappointments of the year, and that casts doubt on whether Gollum’s Nintendo Switch release is still on the cards. If it makes it, it’s unlikely to be one of the best Switch stealth games

Of course, this is speculation. There’s no word from the developer, which is only natural. But given the reviews – and the fact that they focus on performance bugs – we can’t imagine it turning up on Nintendo’s plucky hybrid in decent shape.

Our sister site PCGamesN says in its Lord of the Rings: Gollum review that it “fails to live up to both the Tolkien name and its own potential. From exhausting, repetitive gameplay to a poorly constructed narrative, this is a piece of Middle-earth you should never explore.”

Meanwhile, over on Metacritic, the PS5 version has a score of 38 out of 100. You can check out the trailer below if you dare.
