Somewhat out of the blue, Nintendo unveiled a fresh way to earn My Nintendo platinum points today, as well as a new way to spend them. Nintendo Switch players who are subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online can now access the Nintendo Switch Online app to find missions and rewards.
These new missions are timed for each month, and, currently, the rewards seem to be time-sensitive as well. These missions include tasks such as playing software that supports online play, using the Nintendo Switch Online app, and even playing NES software through the Nintendo Switch Online NES app. This month, the mission is to play Super Mario Bros – as if we need any more excuses to dive back into that one! So what do you get from these new Nintendo Switch Online missions?
The rewards are new characters, frames, and snazzy backgrounds for your player icon, and the current swathe of unlockables are based on Super Mario Odyssey and Animal Crossing, Altogether, this looks like a fun way to revitalise both the My Nintendo service and Nintendo Switch Online, and, though this may be wishful thinking, we’d love to see this implemented into games as some sort of achievement system. Either way, it’s a surprising step forward for the Nintendo Switch Online service, and we look forward to seeing what future content this brings.
