In a recent blog post, developer Niantic has shared a fascinating look at some of the more impressive stats from 2021, showing just how many players interacted with titles like Pokémon Go and Pikmin Bloom. Naturally, Bloom didn’t have quite the impact of Pokémon Go, but it’s still lovely to see it get in on the action, and see it’s still blossoming.
As the world starts to open back up, it’s been a monumental year for Pokémon Go, as the Niantic 2021 recap reveals that you’ve hatched over 3.9 billion eggs, over ten billion Pokémon were caught just on community days, and over 12 billion gifts were exchanged between players. Also of interest, is the fact that Korea has the most active Pokémon players in the world, with an average of 9.44 km travelled per player. It’s a strong reminder of the enduring appeal of Pokémon Go, which still receives regular content and updates, including additional Pokémon.
On the smaller end of the spectrum, well Pikmin are tiny, Pikmin Bloom players have managed to plant over 63 million plants so far. Combined efforts also mean that over 113 million Pikmin have been grown, and you’ve also taken over 338 billion steps. While it’s still light on content, we hope to see continued support for Pikmin Bloom, as it’s a lovely way to expand the franchise and a nice twist on geo-location games.
The entire blog post shares some other interesting insights, celebrating the launch of both Transformers: Heavy Metal and Pikmin Bloom in 2021. Check out the trailer below to see just how Niantic has translated Pikmin to mobile.
