Get ready to start your engines, as Chocobo GP allows you to race through the many worlds of Final Fantasy. With a wide pool of characters, imaginative course design that rings true to its inspiration, and tight drifting controls, the franchise-spanning racing game from Square Enix certainly matches up to its rivals, including a certain plumber’s karting kingdom. All you need to do is get your wings behind the wheel.

If you’re still not sold, or if we’ve piqued your curiosity, you can now download Chocobo GP Lite, a slimmed-down free version of the game to try out. With this, you can take to the track for a good test drive before figuring out if you want the whole Chocobo GP experience or not, with a decent helping on offer for a free version.

If Chocobo GP Lite has you raring to jump back into the world of Square Enix’s flagship franchise, be sure to check out our picks for the best Final Fantasy games on Switch and mobile. What is Chocobo GP lite?

As we mentioned earlier, Chocobo GP Lite is a free version of the new kart racer from Square Enix. Of course, it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of the full version, but if you want to wet your racing wheel whistle without coughing up the funds, there’s no better way to do it.

Chocobo GP Lite certainly packs in a generous serving of content for a free version. You can take part in the global Chocobo GP tournaments that run daily, take to multiplayer with friends, and even get a start on the game’s story mode. There are hours of content here without spending a penny, but we’ve little doubt you’ll be ready for the full version once you’ve revved your engine a few times.

Unfortunately, you can’t redeem any of the season pass prizes as part of the Chocobo GP Lite experience, with the shop locked to the full version. So, if you want to get your hands on season one rewards Cloud and Squall, you’ll need to part with your cash and buy the full game. Still, for omnislashing kart racing fun, it’s worth it, in our opinion.

You also can’t access time attack, series race, or custom race modes either, but if you’re just dropping in to get a feel for the gameplay, then there’s no doubt it’s worth taking Chocobo GP Lite for a spin.

Where can I get Chocobo GP Lite?

Chocobo GP Lite is available on the eshop, alongside the full version of the game. Any progress you make in the Lite version carries over to Chocobo GP, so don’t be afraid to dip into the story mode as you won’t have to redo any missions.

That’s all you need to know about Chocobo GP Lite, the free version of Square Enix’s kart racer. Still, if you want to get up to speed with all the racers found in the game, check out our guide to the Chocobo GP characters before belting up.
