This Evangelion OneXPlayer lets you pilot Eva Unit-01 (kinda)

There’s a new Evangelion OneXPlayer crossover project coming, with a special console model painted purple and green to resemble the iconic Eva Unit-01.

If you’re a fan of Hideaki Anno’s infamous existential anime series, you’re going to want to get a look at the Evangelion OneXPlayer. This special edition of one of the best portable gaming consoles is in the style of Shinji’s robot, Eva Unit-01, plastered with purple and green and complete with the NERV logo from the series. Simply put, I need this bit of tech, and I’ll take on any terrifying alien race intent on bringing about the next step of evolution to do it. Don’t make me.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen One-Netbook embrace an anime series to help promote its devices, with the Gundam-themed OneXPlayer Mini Pro arriving back in 2022. Still, the Neon Genesis Evangelion crossover is sure to be even more popular thanks to its perpetual popularity in Japan and renewed interest in the West following the series’ arrival on Netflix.

It’s worth noting this bit of kit isn’t just special for its design. The OneXPlayer 2 Pro is a wickedly powerful handheld with souped-up specs compared to the regular version. With a Ryzen 7 7840U processor and 2560×1600 resolution, this device is set to be stiff competition for the Steam Deck and ROG Ally in the handheld market.

We don’t have a release date for the OneXPlayer 2 Pro or its Evangelion version just yet, so we’re keeping our eyes open for any updates. Fortunately, you can still get your mech kicks from the Evangelion Ninjala collaboration while you’re waiting.
