Some characters in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity are extremely well hidden, requiring the completion of certain quests. One of them is Monk Maz Koshia, and you’re going to have to jump through a lot of hurdles to make the monk part of your roster.
The big challenge comes in farming the required resources to complete each one of the challenges. For some of these challenges, you just to defeat regular enemies, but for the rest, you’ll need to fight the significantly tougher foes that appear in much smaller numbers. After all that fighting, you’ll then need to save up all your jewels and gemstones you’ve collected throughout your adventure, all just to unlock a very tough boss fight with a fairly tight time limit.
To give you a bit of a heads up, we figured we’d list every single Age of Calamity quest you need to complete to unlock Monk Maz Koshia as one of the playable Age of Calamity characters, as well as tips for farming the required items. There will also be details on what level your characters should be in order to take on the final challenge.
HOW DO I UNLOCK Monk Maz Koshia?
To unlock Monk Maz Koshia in Age of Calamity, you will need to:
- Complete the second mission of Chapter 4
- Complete The Trial of Monsters, The Trial of the Mighty Foe, and The Trial of Stones quests to unlock the final challenge
- Complete The Trial of the Ancients challenge to unlock Monk Maz Koshia
The trickiest part will be to gather the Age of Calamity items required to complete the three Trial quests. In order to complete them fully, you’ll need to gather the following items for each quest:

As for some tips on where best to find these items, the jewels can be found by completing quests, but are also found for sale in one of Age of Calamity merchants. Ethereal Stones are found by completing quests and challenges.
As for the larger monster trophies, we recommend ‘Cross the Hebra Mountains’ for farming Lynel, ‘Cross the Volcano’ for the Stone Talus, and ‘Echoing Footsteps’ for Hinox. These take a lot less time than playing story missions.
The final step is to defeat Monk Maz Koshia in battle in the Trial of the Ancients challenge. It’s a level 38 boss fight with a tough three minute time limit, but once you beat the Sheika monk, you’ll unlock them to use in battle.
