The recent Apple event announced four new smartphones from the Cupertino company. While the iPhone 15 announcement is exciting, the biggest news for game fans is the iPhone 15 Pro performance, which brings with it a three nanometer chip that can power current-gen console games.
Now, Apple has answered some more questions about the device and its gaming capabilities in an interview with IGN. We learned that the iPhone 15 Pro can output to a 4K display, even while gaming, which is impressive, while Apple is also keen on enabling devs to port games across the whole of Apple silicon – so M-chip Macs and iPads too.
More interestingly, however, Apple seemed to make big claims when asked about how the iPhone 15 Pro line stacks up against the Series X and PS5. It made these claims in relation to the combination of power and portability the device offers, but it’s still a pretty big quote.
Kaiann Drance, Apple’s Vice President of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing gave the broader take. “It is like everything you love and depend on, your device, your phototaking, your memory capturing, and now it’s a powerhouse game console, but one that is in your pocket that you can take anywhere […] I mean, it’s remarkable how it all comes together.”
Then, Jeremy Sandmel, Apple’s Senior Director of GPU Software, follows up by saying something that I find a tad baffling. “I think they say the best game console is the one you have with you.” I’ve literally never heard anyone say that, but hey ho. Within this context then, him saying that “it’s going to be the best game console” isn’t that nuts, but it’s still a big statement.
