He’s back – Professor Herschel Layton is to reappear in Professor Layton and the New World of Steam on Nintendo Switch, featuring a new steampunk-themed world and plenty of puzzles.
Nintendo made the surprise announcement during the February 2023 Nintendo Direct and showed a brief trailer of the new Level-5 game. It’s great to see the studio back releasing games in the Western market after some of its global branches got shut down.
Nintendo kept details of the game close to its chest in the Direct, and the game’s official store page states you will “solve epic riddles as you progress through the story of this puzzle/fantasy adventure” as Professor Layton and Luke.
This is the seventh entry into the Professor Layton series to focus on the main man – not including the Ace Attorney crossover – and the first title on the Nintendo Switch.

We have no inkling as to when the Professor Layton and the New World of Steam release date is, so we must hold tight for further information for now. The Direct focused on titles for the first half of 2023, so there’s a chance we’ll get the game sooner rather than later!
