How do I dive in Skyward Sword?

In order to dive, you first need to get your hands on the water dragon’s scale. This is a special, key item obtained through completing the Silent Realm Trial in Faron Woods. It’s the first Silent Realm you visit in Skyward Sword, so don’t worry – you’ll get there pretty quick! Once you get the water dragon’s scale, you will be able to make aquatic movements underwater, which allows you to swim freely, perform spin attacks to fight enemies, and get to previously unreachable locations.

How do I get the water dragon’s scale?

If you want to get the water dragon’s scale, you will need to head to Farore’s Silent Realm in Faron Woods and test your courage.

  • In the Silent Realm, you will not be able to use any items and will explore a limited area. Find and collect tears to fill your spirit vessel – these can be seen much easier with a light fruit. This fruit makes a beam of light appear above the tears you need to collect for thirty seconds. Remember, these don’t stack, so keep them on you and only use one once the lights have faded.
  • Each tear you collect keeps the guardians asleep for 90 seconds, which is important, as you definitely don’t want to tangle with these big baddies.
  • As you move through the realm, avoid any shimmering waking water patches, or enemies with lamps, as both of these will alert and wake the guardians. If you get touched by a guardian, you have to start the trial over again – with only your dusk relics getting carried over into the next attempt.
  • There are 15 tears of Farore to collect in this realm. Once you’ve snagged them all, you’ll be awarded the water dragon’s scale, and can swim to your heart’s content.
