Neva reminds us of Spiritfarer and Princess Mononoke

Immersive story Neva by the makers of Gris features a wolf friend at your side, a decaying world, and an emotional experience on Nintendo Switch.

Neva switch release: a giant white wolf standing behind a woman

Nomada Studio and Devolver Digital present their latest, emotionally charged adventure Neva, coming to Nintendo Switch next year, and it’s already on our wishlists. Neva looks like it’ll secure a place on our list of the best indie games, so we’re very excited.

You may recognize this duo, and if you do it’s for good reason. The two companies created Gris, a fantastic indie game following a young girl through her life experiences. Neva looks to fill the same sort of space, bringing us on another finely crafted journey complete with beautiful artwork and a story to match.

Neva follows Alba, a human bound to a wolf cub after a traumatic experience involving dark forces happens to them. The world around them is dying and their melancholy travels take us through it to witness the decay.

The two adventure together and forge a deeper relationship as they work with each other to overcome different situations. As you play, the wolf cub grows up, but becomes a bit of a rebellious teen in the process, testing the relationship between them. You must do whatever it takes to stick together and survive the decaying world and build a new home.

Not only is there a lovingly crafted story and beautiful artwork, but Neva’s gameplay also brings in multiple elements including platforming levels, puzzles to solve, and enemies to beat up. There’s a minimal UI, so you’re fully immersed in the art style.

The Neva release date is still quite a way off, currently scheduled for release in 2024. We don’t have a smaller window just yet, but we’ll keep you in the loop. Take a look at the trailer below to get a better feel of what the game is all about.

We’re big fans of wholesome and emotional games, so we thought we’d share our recommendations. Here are the best wildlife games, farm games, and visual novel games you can currently play on Switch and mobile.
