The Pokémon Go Gimmighoul and Gholdengo is now live! Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are now available everywhere, and players are ploughing through the Paldea Pokédex, meeting all the new ‘mons. One of the trickiest to find is the ghostly pair known as Gimmighoul and Gholdengo, and now they’re available in Pokémon Go, but are just as difficult to catch and evolve. Much like in Scarlet and Violet, it’s all about Gimmighoul coins, and yes, evolving Gholdengo is still a mission.

How do I catch Pokémon Go Gimmighoul?

The latest updates for Pokémon Go and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet introduce connectivity between the titles, which is key to grabbing the Pokémon Gimmighoul. To unlock the ‘mon, you must send postcards between the games, so you need a copy of Pokémon Scarlet or Violet and your Pokémon Go account. Plus, you must update Pokémon Scarlet or Violet to at least the 1.2.0 firmware.

Once you have these ready, follow these instructions:

  • Hop into Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
  • Within the main game, press X to open the menu
  • open the Poké Portal
  • Scroll down and select mystery gift
  • Press connect to Pokémon Go
  • Click on pair with a Pokémon Go account
  • Open up Pokémon Go, then head to settings
  • Click on connected devices and services
  • Click on Nintendo Switch

If done successfully, the Nintendo Switch should find the account, and your username should appear on the screen in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, asking you to connect. Once you connect the accounts, press connect to Pokémon Go in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Now, in Pokémon Go open up your items. Click on your postcard book, click on a postcard, and then press the settings button. From here, the send to Nintendo Switch option is visible. If you press send to Nintendo Switch in Pokémon Go after pressing connect to Pokémon Go in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the titles interact. Now, in Pokémon Go, you receive the coin bag item which acts very similarly to the mystery box. Opening the coin bag causes Gimmighoul to appear in the world for 30 mins, much like Meltan does with the mystery box.

After sending a postcard between the two games, within Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you receive Gimmighoul coins, which help to evolve the Pokémon into Gholdengo. However, there’s another function. You can send one postcard from Pokémon Go a day, and doing so causes Vivillion with different patterns to appear. The design of Vivillion changes depending on the region of the world you receive the postcards from, so add friends from around the globe, send and receive gifts, and send them to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet to get as many different patterns of Vivillion as you can.

How do I evolve Gimmighoul into Gholdengo in Pokémon Go?

Much like in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, evolving Gimmighoul means you need to collect a lot of Gimmighoul coins. A lot. In Pokémon Go, Gimmighoul needs 999 Gimmighoul coins to evolve into Gholdengo. The easiest way to do so is to follow the instructions above to obtain the coin bag. You can use this once a day after sending a postcard to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, giving you another 30 mins to catch multiple Gimmighoul. We recommend doing so while walking so you encounter as many as possible.

When catching Gimmighoul, there’s a chance to obtain Gimmighoul coins, but this isn’t a guarantee with every catch, so you’d better get grabbing those mons! Currently, it isn’t clear if performing great or excellent catches rewards players with more coins, and our tests don’t point towards this happening either. Similarly, don’t waste your pinap berries, as Gimmighoul coins do not operate like candies. Just keep catching multiple Gimmighoul, and hope for the best.

Next, there are also golden Poké stops in the wild. Spinning these have a slim chance to reward you with Gimmighoul coins. Nabbing 999 coins is a mammoth task, so it seems like it’s going to be a while before any players actually add the elusive Gholdengo to their Pokédex. Don’t get disheartened though, as you know what they say about gold, always believe in yourself!

That’s all we have in our Pokémon Go Gimmighoul Gholdengo guide for today folks, and hopefully, you’re well on the way to nabbing this ghostly little guy. For even more great Pokémon Go guides, be sure to check out our articles on Pokémon Go Giratina and Pokémon Go Lugia next.
