The build-up to the release of a main series Pokémon game is always an exciting time, and the hype really starts to build when the first new Pokémon are revealed. So, it’s a pretty exciting one today with the reveal of Grafaiai, a Pokémon based on the aye-ayes of Madagascar with a habit of leaving trails of colourful paint everywhere they go.

So, now we know what Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Grafaiai looks like, we’re even more impatient to add the painter primate to our party as soon as the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet release date arrives. Even at first glance, it’s clear that Game Freak is looking to fill the land of Paldea with colourful creatures to match the vibrant landscape, and Grafaiai is the perfect example of that.

Nintendo teased the new Pokémon reveal for a few days, with the Pokémon Twitter accounts sharing paint-covered trees from the Paldea region to show Grafaiai’s handiwork. Some had speculated that the new Pokémon might be a Paldean Smeargle equivalent after seeing the smatterings and splatterings of paint, but we’re happy to report that it’s a brand new artist making a mess of Paldea.

As ever, there’s a fresh YouTube video breaking down the new Pokémon, including its type, habits, and some interesting lifestyle information, so you can check that out below to get your head around Grafaiai.
