ConcernedApe shares adorable early Stardew Valley concept art

Stardew Valley's art style is iconic, but how did the characters and locations we know and love start out? New Stardew Valley concept art answers that question.

Whenever Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone tweets he causes a stir in the Stardew Valley community. This time is no different as he took to the app to share photos of some early Stardew Valley concept art drawn in ballpoint pen in a notebook.

The first photo he shared illustrates the initial idea for Pelican Town’s community centre, imagined as a small brick hut with a thatched roof in the wilderness. There are also notes explaining how players should interact with certain buildings and characters in the game. Underneath the community centre drawing, ConcernedApe’s handwriting reads, “What do they do with the bundles? Maybe return them to their proper place for you.”

Fans on Twitter loved seeing the doodles and getting a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the game they know so well. One Twitter user even said that if ConcernedApe ever published his notebook they would want to buy it.

As we reported earlier this week, Eric also confirmed via Twitter that a Stardew Valley 1.6 update is on the way soon. It mostly focuses on tools to help out modders, but some new content is in the works too. Sadly, it means he’s taking a break from Haunted Chocolatier, but we don’t mind waiting just a little bit longer!
