The Witcher 3 ending points

Okay, before we dive into the actual endings, we need to go over the positive and negative points that you can get through certain interactions and actions.

Blood on the Battlefield

  • Negative – say “Relax, you don’t have to be good at everything” to Ciri
  • If you take Ciri to see Emhyr

The Witcher 3 endings

There are three different endings in The Witcher 3.

Tragic ending

Let’s get the horrendous ending out of the way. In the tragic ending, Ciri doesn’t survive the events of the game, and, in his grief, Geralt hunts down the last remaining crone in Crookback Bog as he longs for Ciri’s medallion, one last memento of his daughter. Of course, Geralt succeeds in his mission, but the closing scene is nothing short of heartbreaking, as he sits in crone’s hut, head down, clutching the medallion as monsters swarm around outside.

In order to get this tragic ending, you need to accumulate three negative points.

Empress ending

Remember when we said that taking Ciri to see Emhyr alters the ending you get? Well, this is how. Should you take Ciri to see her father and Nilfgaard wins the ongoing war, Ciri becomes empress. Furthermore, you need to rack up three positive points. This ending involves you going to various spots around White Orchard with Ciri, though it’s evident that she doesn’t want to be there and is rather distant (though she’s not upset with Geralt). In the end, after spending quality time with her father figure, Ciri drops a bombshell on him – she’s going to Nilfgaard, for the throne is the only way she can make a positive impact on the world.

Witcher ending

To get the Witcher ending, you need to have three positive points and not take Ciri to see Emhyr. At first, this ending seems solemn, as you speak to Emhyr and explain that Ciri perished during the final hours of the game, then you journey through White Orchard with Geralt and visit the former Nilfgaardian garrison. As you wait, a master craftsman appears with a sword, one you get to choose the inscription for.

Next, you must head to the village inn, and low and behold, there’s Ciri! She’s not really dead. Instead, she’s ready to walk the path of a Witcher. She’s finally free to be who she wants to be.
