Viper armor

A slick black armor that makes Geralt look like a deadly assassin, the Viper armor can be found during the Open Sesame mission. Head to Novigrad, walk to the Borsody Auction House and then speak to Countess Mignole. Then the Viper armor can be purchased, as long as you don’t back out of this conversation. You won’t get another chance, be careful.

The Viper armor grants a huge poison resistance so is particularly helpful for any poisonous enemies out there, as well as several other great stats; as follows.

Manticore armor

A brown leather vest sitting on top of a white undershirt, the Manticore armor is a fun nod to Geralt’s outfit from The Witcher 2. This armor is located in Toussaint, to the northeast of Gelenser farm. Head down a path filled with greenery, beat the panthers or run passed them, and then head into the visible cave. You’ll find Prophet Lebioda’s Temple, and here use the Witcher sense on the paper littered around to find the diagram needed to craft it.

This armor is perfect if you use a lot of items, and features some fantastic perks to potions and craftable weapons like bombs. The full stats are as follows;

  • 240 armor
  • 10 toxicity
  • 19% piercing resist
  • 24% slashing resist
  • 25% critical damage
  • 31% monster damage resist

Feline armor

A subdued armor that looks perfect for winter, the Feline armor has high collars and cuffs and looks pretty cosy. It’s perfect for quick attacks and has some really useful resistances. To find it, head to Novigrad’s Temple Isle, find the road next to the cliff behind the tower, and then disable the illusion with Keira’s amulet to find a cavern. Head further to find the statues, which must be rotated so they face inwards to reveal a path. Swim through the water, to find a laboratory key. Head into the laboratory to find another Witcher, and defeat them to get the diagram for the Feline armor.

This armor makes dodging much easier and really makes Geralt much more nimble. The stats are as follows;

  • 105 armor
  • 5% attack power
  • 5% piercing defence
  • 5% slashing defence
  • 5% monster defence
  • 20% elemental defence

Ursine armor

A layered armor with brown leather over a long under armor and a fetching neck scarf. The Ursine armor is located in Skellige, if you travel down the path to Yngvar’s Fang there are ruins of a building. Head up the stairs and you’ll enter a big room with a chest that has the diagram needed.

With a whole host of resistances, the Ursine armor is great in the late game against particularly brutal bosses. The stats are as follows;

  • 135 armor
  • 5% adrenaline gain
  • 5% piercing resistance
  • 5% bludgeoning resistance
  • 15% slashing resistance
  • 20% monster resistance

Hen Gaidth armor

The most striking armor in the game, and reminiscent of Dracula’s armor from Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the Hen Gaidth is rich, blood red and incredibly imposing. It also looks just fantastic, To find it you must be level 53 or higher, and start the What Lies Unseen quest in the Blood and Wine DLC. In the What Lies Unseen quest, choose to follow the Unseen Elder, head to Toussaint, and wander over to the elder’s lair.

Head into the cave and gather resources or battle enemies, before eventually, you come across a stone wall that you can slide down. From here, you’ll find a tower, and at the base is a chest with the diagram for the armor. This armor is entirely resistance-focused, and, while you’ll find it very late on in your adventure, it’s incredible for facing off against some of the toughest enemies. The stats are as follows;

  • 300 armor
  • 40% piercing resistance
  • 30% bludgeoning resistance
  • 25% bleed resistance
  • 35% slashing resistance
  • 35% monster damage resistance

Grandmaster Wolven armor

A gorgeous armor set with dark red beneath heavy chainmail and leather straps, the Grandmaster Wolven armor is considered by many as the best armor in the game. To find it you must accept the Scavenger Hunt: Grandmaster Wolven Gear quest, which can be found in Toussaint by the Termes Palace Ruins. Grab the purple ruby on the right so you can enter the ruins, slay the enemies within and you’ll find a satchel with the necessary diagrams for Grandmaster Wolven armor.

With possibly the best stat spread of any armor, this one covers a lot of bases so could well be the armor you keep on forever, if you can actually grab it. The stats are as follows:

  • 240 armor
  • 22% adrenaline point gain
  • 19% piercing resistance
  • 17% bludgeoning resistance
  • 24% slashing damage resistance
  • 31% monster damage resistance
