Tower of Fantasy cooking

How does Tower of Fantasy cooking work?

To start cooking, you need to find some ingredients and throw them into a cooker. Tower of Fantasy cookers are weird-looking things, almost like recycling machines with smiley faces on them. When you approach one, an icon that looks like a pot with steam rising off it appears nearby on your minimap. Most dungeons and settlements have one knocking around.

Like real food, different combinations of ingredients are required to make different recipes. When you learn one, it stays in your recipe list, so you can refer to it later. The recipe page also shows you what buffs or what level of health restoration you gain from eating the meal.

When you begin the game, you already have 13 basic recipes unlocked. That sounds like a lot, but there are currently a whopping 98 different dishes on offer – so that’s 85 that you need to unlock. So, how do you unlock them, you ask?

How do I unlock Tower of Fantasy recipes?

Well, the easiest way is to complete specific side quests, or purchase the recipes from a shop and then use them from your backpack. However, a lot of these meals are very pricey and cost a chunk of your hard-earned gold. Plus, eateries are few and far between, especially in the early game, and they only offer a certain set menu – certainly not all 98 dishes.

As for your other option – it’s time for a little chemistry. Food chemistry, the best kind. When you’re interacting with a cooker, you can go to the creation tab, you can add up to five different ingredients, with a maximum quantity of 15. If you throw in the right items and your cooking attempt is successful, then you unlock that recipe and can make it next time by simply clicking on it in the recipe screen. Unfortunately, you won’t be successful every time – the success rate percentage is noted to the right of the screen after you add the ingredients and is often pretty low when you’re starting off, so it may take quite a few attempts. However, even if you fail, you still get a batch of ‘awful stew’ – it may only regenerate two satiety, but it’s better than nothing, right?

If you’re not up for experimenting and potentially losing some of the ingredients you’ve painstakingly plucked and pilfered while out in the wild, we’ve listed the ingredients required for a variety of recipes below. We’ve not had the chance to discover them all yet, but we’ll update this guide whenever we discover new ones.

Recipes make food of different qualities, noted by the colour of the border around them. White is the lowest, then green, then blue, and finally, the really yummy stuff is purple. The higher the food quality, the better the buffs, satiety, and health restoration they offer you. Also keep in mind that consuming food has a set cooldown, regardless of whether you eat a grain of wheat or a whole bowl of pasta – so aim to make the highest quality foods you have available and equip them to your hotbar, so you can chow down on something useful mid-battle, rather than sucking on an uncooked poultry egg.
