In the new Animal Crossing update, we welcome a host of fresh faces to our little island retreats. Some are returning from previous games, and some are completely new. Find out more about each of the new Animal Crossing New Horizons villagers, their personality types, and their hobbies in the sections below.
All villagers by personality type
Normal or sweet Animal Crossing New Horizons villagers are female characters who have fairly neutral opinions on most things. They are kind in nature, but can be self-deprecating, and prefer to talk about other villagers than themselves. They are motherly, friendly, and get along with everyone, even snooty and cranky villagers – well, most of the time. Normal villagers wake up at 6 AM and go to sleep at 12 AM.
Peppy Animal Crossing New Horizons villagers, also known as perky or bubbly, are female characters who are very friendly and excitable, and highly apologetic if they feel they’ve done anything wrong. They are cheerful and love to explore the island, but can be a little stubborn and immature. Peppy villagers get on well with most other villagers, though don’t like it when snooty and cranky villagers gossip or are rude to them. They wake up at 7 AM and go to sleep at 1:30 AM.

Sisterly Animal Crossing New Horizons villagers are female characters who are very caring, but can sometimes come across as blunt and a little tomboyish. They get along with all villagers, but can conflict with cranky and snooty villagers, especially if they gossip about them behind their backs. Though they are tough, they still care about their appearance, and will give you fighting tips and medicine if you are stung by a wasp. They wake up at 9:30 AM and sleep at 3:00 AM.
Snooty Animal Crossing New Horizons villagers are female characters who appear more mature and high-class than other villagers. They tend to enjoy make-up, fancy clothes, and luxurious interior design. They can appear to be self-centred and sarcastic, with a short fuse, but will open up if you become friends with them. They tend to get along with cranky, smug, and normal villagers, but clash with lazy, jock, peppy, and sisterly villagers due to differing views and personalities. Snooty villagers sleep at 2:30 AM and wake up at 8:30 AM.
Cranky Animal Crossing New Horizons villagers are male characters who are easily annoyed or irritated. They can be quite bitter, and don’t keep up with current social trends, so they clash with peppy villagers. They can be quite disagreeable with other villagers, and come across as quite self-centred, but enjoy a bit of gossip and become protective towards you if you earn their friendship. They come across as quite mature, and get along with snooty, jock, sisterly, and smug villagers. They are okay with lazy and normal villagers, though can sometimes be offended by things they say. They go to bed at 3:30 AM and wake up at 9:00 AM.

Jock Animal Crossing New Horizons villagers, also known as sporty or athletic, are male villagers who love staying fit and working out. They are obsessed with their progress in sports and their physical appearance, and can sometimes be a bit gossipy. They can come across as a little dumb, but take the role of brotherly figures, occasionally giving you pep talks. Their personality type conflicts with lazy, cranky, and snooty villagers, but they get on well with peppy, sisterly, and normal villagers. Jock villagers tend to sleep between 12:30 AM and 6:30 AM.

Lazy Animal Crossing New Horizons villagers, also referred to as doofus, food-loving, or relaxed, are male villagers. They are calm, laid-back, and very hospitable. They tend to chat with everyone, but may struggle to get along with jocks and snooty villagers, who can be judgemental of their diet and lifestyle. They generally wake up at 8 AM and go to sleep at 11 PM, unless there’s a firework show – they wouldn’t want to miss that!

Smug Animal Crossing New Horizons villagers, also referred to as prideful or charming, are male characters who are kind, polite, and total gentlemen who get along with everyone, though they can sometimes clash with cranky villagers. They tend to have a pretty big ego, and will often talk about how cool they are – they’ll even flirt with you occasionally. But overall they are lively and positive. They usually wake up between 7 AM and 2 AM.
