Mario + Rabbids team grew massively for new Switch title

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is a tactics sequel from Ubisoft, by a team that is four times larger than it was on the original Nintendo Switch game

A rabbid (sort of a rabbit but a humanoid) wearing blue dungarees and a red hat to look like Mario, stood in front of a blurred desert landscape.

Mario + Rabbids fills a very nice niche in the market, with the original game being a tactics masterclass that came out of nowhere. But the Nintendo Switch sequel, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, is set to raise that bar, with an even bigger development team to assist the task.

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz (via GoNintendo), Davide Soliani, the famed Mario + Rabbids director (who pre-orders his own team’s games), said that the Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope development team is nearly four times the size of the team that worked on Kingdom Battle. You can see the full quote below.

“The Sparks of Hope team is almost four times bigger than the one we had with Kingdom Battle. This means there is a lot of restructuring you need to do, and a lot of management that you have to pull off. Also because we are now divided across many, many different studios, we need to communicate and share a lot more.

And when you increase a team three or four times, the on-boarding takes a lot of time. Just to get everyone on the same page, sharing the culture, sharing the love and the passion for what we are doing. But I think we have been all lucky, because I love working with all of them. And it’s really enriching because of all the different cultures.”

We’re set to get a closer look at the game in a Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Ubisoft Forward appearance on September 10. With the Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope release date not that far away, this is probably the last big chunk of info we’re getting, following the Mario + Rabbids video we saw a few months ago. Check out that video above, or get ready for the release with our Mario + Rabbids pre-order guide.
