Brand new Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Horizons first episode

With Ash and Pikachu departing the Pokémon anime after a 26 year run, the new series has started with a bang by introducing a brand new Pokémon.

The first episode of the revamped Pokémon anime series aired in Japan on Friday and is already making waves by introducing a brand new Pokémon. Fans online are as excited as ever and are starting to craft theories about the Pokémon’s origin.

The crystalline turtle-like creature appears in front of Pokémon Horizons’ protagonist Liko and her partner Pokémon to protect them with a shield. This is far from the first time that the Pokémon Company has introduced a new ‘mon in the anime before a game, but this hasn’t happened since Magearna’s debut in 2016.

The first Pokémon to appear in the anime before a game was Ho-oh, whose appearance in the original episode of Pokémon Indigo League closely mirrors this creature’s debut. Many fans believe that this sparkly little guy is a pre-evolution to Terapagos, one of the featured Pokémon of the upcoming Scarlet and Violet DLC.

Seeing as Urshifu from Pokémon Sword and Shield’s Isle of Armor DLC evolved from Kubfu, it’s not out of the question for a featured legendary or mythical Pokémon to have a pre-evolution. We’ll probably have to wait for the Scarlet and Violet DLC release date to know for sure!
