The Witcher 3 Ciri guide

The Witcher 3’s Ciri is a vital character to the story, triggering Geralt to search all over the world to find her, as she’s pursued by the dangerous wild hunt.

The Witcher 3’s Ciri is one of those characters that clings everything together. I’m no storyteller, but as Geralt, Yennefer, and a wide cast of characters all attached to Ciri in some way pop up throughout the story, it becomes clear that she’s the centre of the narrative.

At it’s core, then, The Witcher 3 is about Ciri, even if The Witcher 3’s Geralt and The Witcher 3’s Yennefer spend more time actually on screen, so read on to find out all about this key character, from her part in the third game and her personality, to a list of all the Witcher games she has appeared in. Who is Ciri in The Witcher 3?

As we learn in The Witcher 3, Ciri trained with Geralt when she was younger, at the witcher keep of Kaer Morhen. This is shown through playable flashbacks, however, as, at the beginning of the game, no one knows where Ciri is.

Early on, we meet the Bloody Baron, who took Ciri in. She fled the Baron when she had to use her powers, knowing that the Wild Hunt, the ones chasing her for her elder blood, would be able to sense that her powers were used.

This flight continues through many characters who you meet as Geralt, one step behind, following her trail. There’s Dandelion, Whoreson Junior, and many others along the way, until the trail leads to Skellige.

From there, Geralt eventually finds Ciri, after some run-ins with elves and removing of curses and whatnot. But they can’t rest for long, as the wild hunt plan to raid the keep Kaer Morhen. This is where the band of friends you’ve made along the way make a stand, though what happens next is best experienced for yourself.

Ciri’s personality in The Witcher 3

Ciri’s personality is a little all over the place. She’s no damsel in distress, able to fend for herself and possessing a strong will, but she’s definitely not unflappable. She was raised as a princess, after all.

Still, throughout The Witcher 3, Ciri is attempting to not make her problem – i.e. the wild hunt – everyone else’s problem, and that’s noble. She also has an endearing kindness towards those less strong or in need, which is admirable.

What Witcher games does Ciri appear in?

Ciri appears only in The Witcher 3, though she is mentioned in the second game, briefly:

  • The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
