Unpacking

Switch

Moving can be super stressful in real life, but in Unpacking, it becomes a truly zen experience. Riffle through boxes full of personal possessions, memories, and more, as you slot them into a new apartment, learning clues about the life you’re unpacking as you go. With no timers, metres, or scores, Unpacking is a wonderfully relaxing experience that combines puzzle solving with decorating, all underscored with a domestic and personal narrative, a beautiful visual style, and a chill soundtrack.

Home Design Makeover

Android and iOS

Like Redecor, Home Design Makeover is a mobile game that allows you to show off your creative flair in photo-realistic spaces – but it sets itself apart from the competition through its fun, word puzzle elements. Solve a variety of anagrams and crosswords as you renovate your clients’ properties and expand your vocabulary at the same time. With heaps of spaces to doll up, loads of different personalities to work with, and plenty of rewards available for all your hard work, this one’s a real treat for anyone with an interest in interior design.

House Flipper

Switch

House Flipper has garnered plenty of attention from streamers and players alike, and rightly so. Offering you the unique opportunity to become a one-man renovation crew, it’s your job to buy, repair, and remodel a variety of run-down houses, giving them a second life and selling them for a profit.

This title offers a more hands-on approach than most other decorating and design games, allowing you to truly express your creative side (or your wild side – no one’s stopping you from making a one-room house with nothing but 20 toilets inside). You’ve got a variety of tools at your disposal, from hammers and drills to gorgeous furnishings, allowing you to focus on what appeals to you most. Whether you’re interested in repairs and installations, achieving the perfect aesthetic, or focusing on budget management and profit, this game’s got it all.

Before and after shots of a makeover in Property Brothers

Property Brothers

Android and iOS

If you’ve got an interest in decorating and interior design, you’ve likely heard of Drew and Jonathan Scott, the Property Brothers. Well, in this game, TV’s favourite design duo need your help. Allow your clients to achieve their design dreams, as you renovate and customise spaces, using the charming style that the twins have become known for. Head behind the scenes, learn tips and tricks from the Property Brothers themselves, and engage in fun, puzzle-based minigames to earn coins to spend on décor. It’s relaxing, fun, and a must-play for any fan of Drew and Jonathan.

My Universe Interior Designer

Switch

The stylised design sim, My Universe – Interior Designer, is a great little gem in the Nintendo Switch catalogue, perfect for anyone with a passion for interior decorating. With a renovation mode, where you can completely restructure the house, building and knocking down walls, painting, fixing electrics and water inlets, and a decoration mode, where you can style the property however you like, it offers plenty of freedom to let your creativity show. Of course, you’ll want to keep your clients happy though, so be sure to keep their preferences in mind!

Animal Restaurant screenshots showing the interior design and animal customers

Animal Restaurant

Android and iOS

In this sweet, chill game, you take the role of a stray cat, looking to start their very own restaurant. Hire staff, serve customers, and earn fish to customise your restaurant. Adding cute furniture and renovating the space earns you more fish, allowing you to unlock more furnishings and space, such as the garden and the buffet bar. Animal Restaurant doesn’t give you the same level of customisation and involvement offered in the other games on this list, but it’s a wonderfully relaxing experience, full of adorable little animals and cute furniture – and I can’t deny, I’ve spent far too much time tapping away on this one.

A busy Cat Cafe Manager screenshot

Cat Cafe Manager

Switch

Cat Cafe Manager is a gorgeous little gem, where you move to the small town of Catterwaul to renovate your grandma’s cat cafe. While it may look simple on the surface, it has a surprising amount of depth, with resource management, unforgettable characters, a lovely narrative, and, of course, plenty of cats to pet.

Your main focus is expanding your cafe and ensuring it meets the needs of your customers, meaning you need to decorate your space with comfy chairs, pretty plants, funky furniture sets, and all the amenities required to keep your funds flowing (don’t underestimate how much the quality of a toilet can affect someone’s mood).

Despite all of this, it still manages to maintain a wonderfully chill atmosphere, with no fail states to stress you out. How seriously you take this game is entirely up to you, whether you focus on maximising profits by targeting specific design styles, or just relaxing and vibing with the cats as you pick out your favourite pieces of furniture.

Animal Crossing Pocket Camp screenshots

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp

Android and iOS

Of course, we can’t make a list of the best decorating games without including Animal Crossing – we’re pretty sure that’s a gaming sin. Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp may not have the level of customisation available in the main titles, but it offers a nice, laid back option for when you want to hop in and see your favourite fuzzballs on the go. With a sweet little campsite prime for designing, a bunch of adorable furniture from a variety of styles, and a heap of critters to appease with your decorating decisions, it makes for an adorable casual sim, great for killing time.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Switch

And last, but certainly not least, we have Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Nintendo’s beloved social sim has made substantial waves since its release, with so many people signing up for the idyllic island getaway that it’s quickly become one of the best-selling Switch games of all time. If, however, you’ve yet to dip your toes into its serene waters and are a fan of decorating games, we implore you to give it a try.

Though foraging materials, befriending animals, and exploring new islands certainly make up a large part of what ACNH is, the main draw is your ability to build up your entire island however you want. Whether you’re planting flowers, terraforming hills and lakes, or designing your own perfect home, the level of freedom truly lets your creativity run wild.

The Happy Homes DLC only enhances this, as it gives you the option to also decorate the homes of your villagers in any way you like. It’s relaxing, it’s super cute, and it really captures that sunny island getaway vibe, while also giving you plenty of room to flex your design skills. If you’re already booking your tickets, be sure to check out our ACNH villagers guide to know which critters you can meet on your new vacation.

And that’s it for our list of the best decorating games on mobile and Switch. If you’re still on the hunt for more titles, check out our list of the best mobile games for our top picks across a wide range of genres.
