If you want to avoid losing progress in the game, you need to learn how to create a Harvestella save file. Unlike many other games you come across these days, you can’t save from the main menu whenever you want, and while autosaves are handy, they’re not quite as reliable as a manual save.

So let’s take a look at how to save in Harvestella, and when you unlock the ability to do so. For other handy how-tos, check out our guide on how to get to Harvestella Shatolla. We’ve also got a bunch of other useful Harvestella guides, including Harvestella crops, Harvestella machines, Harvestella food deliveries, and Harvestella romance.

The game does support autosave, and for the first chapter and the beginning of the second chapter, you have to rely on that. Harvestella auto-saves every night, and usually after a significant event or cutscene. If you leave the game before unlocking manual saves, you can either load from the auto-save, or click ‘continue’ on the main menu.

You unlock the ability to manual save when exploring Higan Canyon with Dianthus. When the two of you come across the second Motus Monolite statue in the Higan Canyon dungeon, you trigger a short cutscene where Dianthus explains how Motus Monolites work, and gives you a device that allows you to activate them.

From here, you’re able to interact with Motus Monolite statues to activate them wherever you go. Once activated, interacting with Motus Monolite statues gives you the option to manually save, teleport to another active Motus Monolite within the dungeon or town, or teleport home. After a certain point in the game, you can also take a break at the Motus Monolite to share a meal with your party members, or stand near it to change your party line-up and equipment.

Even after unlocking the manual save, the game still autosaves when you go to bed. When loading the game, you have the option to load your last manual save, or the previous autosave file.
