Is there a new Sonic game in 2025? Sonic x Shadow Generations meant that 2024 was a huge year for the Blue Blur, and a small teaser at The Game Awards 2024 gives us hope that 2025 could be just as big as the next Sonic game – besides the impending Sonic Rumble – appears to be a racing game.
Beyond Sonic and co, you might want to know if there’s a new Harry Potter game, a new Pokémon game, a new Star Wars game, or a new Zelda game due to arrive in 2025. We can even look at the likelihood of Elden Ring Switch and Resident Evil 4 Remake Switch ports, though you probably shouldn’t hold your breath for those.
Is there a new Sonic game in 2025?
Yes, there’s a new Sonic game called Sonic Rumble coming in 2025. This exciting multiplayer party battle royale game is due to come to Android, iOS, and PC sometime this year. Unfortunately, we don’t have an exact release date just yet, but keep your eyes peeled as we’ll update this guide as soon as we get more info.
Beyond Sonic Rumble, SEGA has also released a cinematic trailer for another new Sonic game called Sonic Racing: Crossworlds. The trailer showcases Shadow driving off in a badass-looking car, and that’s enough to get us excited, but we don’t know much else just yet. We also have no inkling when this game is due out, but a 2025 release isn’t out of the question.

What platforms is the new Sonic game on?
Sonic Rumble is coming to Android, iOS, and PC via Steam and Google Play Games. We don’t know whether it will be Steam Deck compatible yet, but we’re hoping for full verification so we can also play this multiplayer adventure on one of the best portable gaming consoles.
We don’t know what platforms Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will be on yet, but we think it’s likely that it will release on PC and all current-gen consoles, including the Nintendo Switch 2. We’re also hoping for Steam Deck compatibility with this one, but we’ll have to wait and see.
What will the new Sonic game be like?
Sonic Rumble is a fresh party game with battle royale elements. It allows you to choose from a massive cast of iconic Sonic characters as you compete with up to 32 other players in a variety of game modes.
The game features a massive range of stages with different themes and ways to play. Challenges include Run, where you must race against other players, Survival, where you compete with your opponents to stay in the game, Ring Battle, where players must dodge and weave for the most rings, and more.
All matches are short and sweet, making it great to pick up and play on the go, and you can also form a squad of up to four players with your friends and family as you work together to take on squads from all around the world.

As for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, we know that it’s a racing game, so you can expect the same kart-driving mayhem of other character racers like Sonic Racing and Mario Kart. It’s likely to feature a vast roster of your favorite characters, both heroes and villains, as well as a massive list of tracks for you to unlock and different gameplay modes to explore.
Of course, we’re still waiting for more info on Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, so be sure to check back here in the future to find out more about its gameplay and features.
New Sonic game release date speculation
Sonic Rumble is coming to mobile devices on May 8, 2025. Finally, after the delay in its initial Winter 2024 release window, we know when to expect some party action.
If you’re interested in this game, Sonic Rumble pre-registrations are now open on the official website, Google Play, and the App Store. We highly recommend signing up, too, as there are plenty of rewards up for grabs if you do. There’s also a pre-registration campaign with multiple milestones, meaning the more people that pre-register, the more goodies all players receive on launch.
As for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, with nothing but a 26-second trailer to its name, it’s hard to say when it will release. However, we’re hoping for a 2025 release, so we’ll be keeping an eye out for any news.
