The new Sonic game is Sonic Racing: Crossworlds, which came out on September 25, 2025. There's also Sonic Rumble, a mobile party game featuring all of your favorite characters, on the way, though it's currently facing an indefinite delay, so there's no way of knowing if it'll release this year or not anymore. Originally, Sonic Rumble was due to launch in Winter 2024, but Sega pushed it back to May 8, 2025, before announcing the indefinite delay shortly before that date - luckily, we have a new window and it's for next month.
What platforms is the new Sonic game on?
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is out now PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games. While it's not out on Switch 2 yet, a port for the game is coming to the console before the end of the year. The game is also Steam Deck verified, so you can also play this multiplayer adventure on one of the best portable gaming consoles.
Sonic Rumble is coming to both iOS and Android devices, meaning anyone with a cell phone can play.
What will the new Sonic game be like?
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is a fresh racing game to rival the likes of Mario Kart World. It allows you to choose from a massive cast of iconic Sonic characters as you race across 24 tracks and through 15 CrossWorlds via Travel Rings. You can compete solo or with a team, upgrade your vehicle with tons of gadgets, and take advantage of powerful items like the Monster Truck transformation.
Sonic Rumble, meanwhile, is a party game that sees all of your favorite characters duke it out in various minigames.
When is the new Sonic game release date?
