In 2023, the beloved castle opened its doors to take you back to the 1800s in Hogwarts Legacy, but can we expect a new Harry Potter game in 2025?

Is there a new Harry Potter game in 2025?
There’s currently no word of a new Harry Potter game in 2025, but that’s not to say one won’t show up. Harry Potter mobile games are quite common, so we may see a new one this year. We know that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is in the works, though we wouldn’t expect to see that until 2026 or 2027.
New Harry Potter game platforms
Without an official announcement for a new game, we can’t say what platforms the next Harry Potter game will be on. However, we can make some speculations. Firstly, if it’s a mobile game, it’s likely to be for both iOS and Android.
As for the next triple-A Harry Potter game, we think that it’s highly likely to be available on PC. And, as Hogwarts Legacy is Steam Deck verified, we predict that it will also be available on all the best portable gaming consoles like the Steam Deck and the ASUS Rog Ally.
Hogwarts Legacy is also available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. As such, we think it’s likely that the next Harry Potter game will come to all current-gen consoles, including the Nintendo Switch 2, which is now confirmed for a 2025 release date.
New Harry Potter game gameplay predictions
It goes without saying that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is also going to be an open world RPG, but what else might we see from a future Harry Potter game? On mobile, there’s a match-three puzzler called Harry Potter: Puzzles and Spells, a CCG called Harry Potter: Awakened, and an RPG called Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, so that’s a broad range of genres already.
We also think now is as good a time as any for the Harry Potter IP to embrace some of its darker elements. There are some subtle undertones in previous games, but we’ve had enough of subtlety. It’s time to create a Harry Potter game with a spooky twist.
There’s plenty of horror potential in this world, and while there’s never going to be a full-on Harry Potter horror game, we think there’s scope for future entries to embrace the darker side of the franchise. After all, how cool would a gritty Harry Potter game like Elden Ring with big beast, spells, and big battles be? At the very least, we certainly hope to see a moral system should there be a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy – the fact that you can use the three unforgivable curses and not face any backlash is unbelievable.
