Hogwarts has plenty of room for new students, and anytime there's a new Harry Potter game, a horde of young witches and wizards enroll in the famous school for witchcraft and wizardry. In 2023, the beloved castle opened its doors to take you back to the 1800s in Hogwarts Legacy, but can we expect a new Harry Potter game in 2026?

Is there a new Harry Potter game in 2026?
There's no word on a new Harry Potter game coming out in 2026; however, we do know that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is in the works, so there's a chance we may at least hear more about that game at some point this year.
New Harry Potter game platforms
Until we get an official look at the new game, or, better still, the developer decides to tell us the platforms, it's impossible to say what you'll be able to play the next HP game on. However, as Hogwarts Legacy is available on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5, along with older consoles, there's a good chance that the next game will be on those platforms, too.
New Harry Potter game gameplay predictions
It goes without saying that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is also going to be an open world RPG, but what else might we see from a future Harry Potter game? On mobile, there's a match-three puzzler called Harry Potter: Puzzles and Spells, a CCG called Harry Potter: Awakened, and an RPG called Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, so that's a broad range of genres already.
We also think now is as good a time as any for the Harry Potter IP to embrace some of its darker elements. There are some subtle undertones in previous games, but we've had enough of subtlety. It's time to create a Harry Potter game with a spooky twist.
There's plenty of horror potential in this world, and while there's never going to be a full-on Harry Potter horror game, we think there's scope for future entries to embrace the darker side of the franchise. After all, how cool would a gritty Harry Potter game like Elden Ring with big beast, spells, and big battles be? At the very least, we certainly hope to see a moral system should there be a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy - the fact that you can use the three unforgivable curses and not face any backlash is unbelievable.
