Hogwarts has plenty of room for new students, and anytime there’s a new Harry Potter game, a horde of young witches and wizards enroll in the famous school for witchcraft and wizardry. In 2023, the beloved castle opened its doors to take you back to the 1800s in Hogwarts Legacy, but can we expect a new Harry Potter game in 2024?
If you’re not keen to get back to your studies, you might be more open to a new Pokémon game or a new Zelda game. However, if you want to know more about the current Harry Potter games, make sure you read our Harry Potter Magic Awakened house, Hogwarts Legacy potions, Hogwarts Legacy beasts, and Hogwarts Legacy dark arts guides. There’s a little magic in every article.
Anyway, let’s take a look at the likelihood of a new Harry Potter game in 2024.
Is there a new Harry Potter game in 2024?
While we know that Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is on the way after its reveal in April 2023, there’s no release window for it, which doesn’t give us hope for a 2024 release. However, announcements can come out of nowhere, so should we get news of a new Harry Potter game in 2024, we’ll be sure to let you know. If the rumors have any merit, Hogwarts Legacy is poised to get a sequel – though we’d hope to see Quidditch Champions release long before that.
New Harry Potter game platforms
As for what platforms a prospective Harry Potter game may come to, it could be PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Nintendo Switch, or mobile, as the franchise boasts numerous games across multiple platforms. 2023 alone saw the release of a new mobile game (Harry Potter: Magic Awakened) and Hogwarts Legacy across multiple platforms, including Switch. If the rumors of a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy are true, we expect it’ll appear on the Switch 2.
When it comes to Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, the only confirmed platform is PC, though we highly doubt that this is the only platform the game is coming to – we suspect it will at least arrive on PlayStation and Xbox, with the potential to land on Nintendo’s next console.
New Harry Potter game gameplay predictions
It goes without saying that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is also going to be an open world RPG, but what else might we see from a future Harry Potter game? On mobile, there’s a match-three puzzler, a CCG, and an RPG ( Harry Potter: Puzzles and Spells, Harry Potter: Awakened, and Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, respectively), so that’s a broad range of genres already.
We also think now is as good a time as any for the Harry Potter IP to embrace some of its darker elements. There are some subtle undertones in previous games, but we’ve had enough of subtlety. It’s time to create a Harry Potter game with a spooky twist. There’s plenty of horror potential in this world, and while there’s never going to be a horror-based Harry Potter game, we think there’s scope for future entries to embrace the darker side of the franchise. We certainly hope to see a moral system should there be a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy – the fact that you can use the three unforgivable curses and not face any backlash is unbelievable.
Admittedly, we really can’t wait for Quidditch Champions, as we’re long overdue for another game dedicated to the sport, especially after its absence from Hogwarts Legacy. The last game centered on the wizarding activity was Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup in 2003.
