Enter the Gungeon is a fantastic game, and frankly, it’s one of the best roguelike’s out there. It’s especially great if you like gunplay. The game is a fast-paced bullet-hell shooter that features mayhem, carnage, and plenty of roguelike elements, making it a punishing experience.
You get to choose between four characters, each of which has different abilities that can help you as you traverse through the level. Furthermore, you can bring a friend along for the ride, cause only true buddies shoot together and stay together.

Unexplored – Switch
If you’re after an intense yet rewarding challenge, you need to look no further than Unexplored. Technically, this is a roguelite, but it feels more like a roguelike than anything else. The game tasks you with exploring dungeons, fighting hundreds upon hundreds of enemies, and solving puzzles while you’re at it.
Oh, and it features perma-death mechanics. Yeah, you die, that’s it. Game over, kaput, gone, on to the next life. Nonetheless, there are some upgrades you can purchase throughout the game that follow you to the grave and beyond, staying with you for all of time, no matter how many lives you live.

Wizard of Legend – Switch
We love indie games at Pocket Tactics, and any time we can include one on lists like this, we do. Therefore, we can’t give suggestions on the best games like Hades, and not include Wizard of Legend. This 2D roguelike features top-down gameplay, and puts you in the shoes of a wizard, as you fight your way through a ten-floor dungeon. To survive this hellhole, you must utilise spells, your wit, and pray to Gandalf.
Moreover, there are a few major bosses just waiting to ruin your day, so don’t get too big for your boots after beating the hordes. There are bigger and badder foes to come.

Yes, this game made an appearance on our games like Diablo list, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t include it here, too. Perhaps one of the most trying things about Darkest Dungeon is that you invest so much time into making sure your dungeon dwellers are strong, well equipped, and ready to handle anything that comes their way. Only for them to lose their lives to famine and disease. Death also happens to be a permanent fixture here, no coming back for round two.
But hey, you wouldn’t be here if you didn’t want a challenge, and Darkest Dungeon gives you a tough one, while also serving some great turn-based combat.

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ – Switch
There’s no way we could put a list like this together and not include The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. You’re in for a tough time with this one, but it’s a fun ride. You take on the role of Isaac – or another unlockable character – and must work your way through your mother’s basement. They say there’s nothing like a mother’s love, but even we have to admit Isaac’s mum doesn’t have it going on here.
Naturally, mum is a bit of a hoarder, so Isaac needs to fight through all the enemies that call the basement home. Oh, and did we mention that if you die, it’s permanent? Maybe it’s better to just stay with mummy after all.

Rogue Legacy – Switch and mobile
Rogue Legacy is a must-play if you enjoy roguelite elements. The dungeons found within are randomly generated, meaning you’re in for a different experience each time you play. Rogue Legacy features some hack ‘n slash combat, but also gives you the opportunity to use secondary abilities, such as magic.
However, do you want to know what makes this game unique? Upon death, your child must pick up the sword and continue the fight. Once your character meets their end, you get to choose between a set of randomly generated offspring, some of which have genetic peculiarities that alter aspects of the game. For example, you could have a character with ADHD, which makes them move fast – I know a thing or two about this myself.
