The best Spider-Man games

Spider-Man games are always popular, but in our expert opinion, these are the best Spider-Man games you can web-zip into right now.

Best Spider-Man games: An image of Spider-Man swinging through the air on a yellow background.

There are plenty of Spider-Man games out there, so choosing the best ones is a tall order; in fact, you might say it takes great power and responsibility. Luckily, we're big fans of Spidey, frequently swinging after him in whatever adventures we can get our hands on. So, let's get into what Spider-Man games are worth your attention on mobile, Nintendo Switch, and PC handhelds. Alexa, play 'Hero' by Chad Kroeger and Josey Scott.

Alternatively, take a leap over to the dark side of DC Comics with list of Batman games list to see what the caped crusader is up to these days. We also have lists of the best DC games and best Marvel games because, you know, a hero never sleeps.

Here are the best Spider-Man games.

Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered

Portable Platforms: Steam Deck, and Windows handheld

Marvel's Spider-Man might just be the apex of Spidey games. While we were tempted to add Marvel's Spider-Man 2 to this list, the game's current state on handhelds like the Steam Deck or Asus ROG Ally needs some work. You can learn more about the best Spider-Man 2 Steam Deck settings before downloading it. But that's okay, because Insomniac Games' first foray with the webhead is an excellent game that stands tall alone.

The seamless transition from intro cinematic to immediate gameplay puts us in control of a Peter Parker that's been living his double life as Spider-Man for a good amount of time. He's older - but maybe only a little wiser - than other versions of the Spidey's we've met before, and he's already put the likes of the Sinister Six behind bars by the time Marvel's Spider-Man takes place. You'll still go up against some iconic villains and play through a truly incredible story, all while enjoying some of the best webslinging mechanics we've ever had.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Portable Platforms: Steam Deck, and Windows handheld

Listen, Peter Parker can't always take up the fun. Miles Morales got his start in Marvel history in 2011, and has become a staple of Spidey iconography since then. Movies like the Spider-Verse franchise have only bolstered this, as well as Insomniac Games' spin-off title, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

With Peter Parker taking some time off from crime fighting, Miles steps into to protect the city in the meantime, while learning what it really means to be Spider-Man in the process. The game's chilly Christmas setting, pulsating soundtrack, and refined mechanics make it worth picking it up, even if the campaign is on the shorter side.

Spider-Man 2

Portable Platforms: PlayStation Portable

Yes, Spider-Man 2 is on the PSP, and we have this handy best PSP games list, so you can bundle more games alongside it. Spider-Man 2 on Sony's handheld is a different experience to the acclaimed PlayStation 2 counterpart. Instead of an open-world New York City to explore, this version of the game by developer Vicarious Visions takes influence from its predecessor, using the same engine and gameplay style across levels set across Spider-Man 2's main story.

Not only do you get to experience the plot points of the movie, but embark on side stories that include the likes of Black Cat and Mysterio. It's always been a fun time, and we'd be remiss if we didn't at least mention it.

Portable Platforms: Nintendo Switch

While Spider-Man doesn't feature in the game's title, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 wouldn't exist without him, as the web-slinger is one of the most important protagonists in the series. He also happens to be the funniest character to take charge of in this Switch title. If you want to see what it's like to be Spider-Man outside the streets of Manhattan, you can't do much better than Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.

Marvel Future Fight

Portable Platforms: iOS, Android

In Marvel Future Fight, you need to assemble a team of heroes to save the world, one of which is Spidey. Given the story on offer and the fun combat that the game provides, Marvel Future Fight is one of the best titles in which you can play as Spider-Man on mobile devices. Luckily, Spidey happens to be a solid choice for your team, offering good damage while being able to take a hit or two.

Portable Platforms: Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, and Windows Handhelds

The charm and humor of the Marvel universe fit perfectly into the world of Lego, as evidenced by Lego Marvel Superheroes 2. Of course, it's not just Spider-Man that you get to play as, but he's there, swinging around, kicking butt, and being a blocky charmer. Plus, the story and combat in this gem make it well worth a try, the fact that you can pair up Spider-Man with his archenemies is just a bonus.

Just a little side note, Spider-Man 2099 and Spider-Gwen are two of the best iterations of the superhero, and that's not up for discussion.

Marvel Contest of Champions

Portable Platforms: iOS, Android

MCoC is one of the best fighting games on mobile and is arguably the best offering when it comes to Marvel games on the platform. There are various versions of Spider-Man on offer in this game, including the likes of Spider-Man 2099 (my favorite iteration of the iconic hero) and Tom Holland's Spider-Man from No Way Home. While there's a story to experience, it's all about the combat, and it's something Kabam does so very well. So get out there and have your dream Spider-Man matchups.

Tell you what, while you're here, why not check out our MCoC tier list to see where Spidey falls.

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows

Portable Platforms: Nintendo DS

Well, if we continue our string of outside-the-box thinking, we can mention one of our personal favorite Spider-Man games, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows (okay, it's top three). Wait, before you cry out that we've finally crossed the line, we can't talk about Marvel's Spider-Man here or its 2023 sequel. We can't even come up with some wacky logic to justify it, so this DS game makes up for it in our minds. Oh, and please check out our guide to the best DS games. That piece of work is the reason we can justify the inclusion of Spider-Man: Web of Shadows.

The reason this is a personal favorite of ours is that you can entice Spidey over to the dark side, and let's face it, the bad guys have so much more fun. Seriously though, being able to dictate Spider-Man's path like this is a treat, and we hope to see someone tackle the concept again in the future.
