Pokemon Unite's Charizard hovering in the air

Pokémon Unite is finally upon us, so it’s time to grab your friends and face other trainers in 5v5 team battles. Of course, there’s a range of Pokémon available to use from day one, including Pikachu, Charizard, Alolan Ninetails, Machamp, Gengar, Cinderace, and Talonflame. A nice mixture of Pokémon from various generations. However, on this occasion, we’re going to focus on the fan-favourite pseudo-dragon.

In this guide, we’ll teach you all about the best Pokémon Unite Charizard build, what items to choose, and all the moves the ferocious creature is capable of. Charizard’s main role is all-rounder, meaning the character can attack, support, and defend, making them a great versatile champ with plenty of punch.

For those of you that plan on getting in on the action, we have a Pokémon Unite tier list, that ranks every playable Pokémon – so go and check it out to see where Charizard ranks. We also have Pokémon Unite PikachuPokémon Unite’s GengarPokémon Unite’s Zeraora, and Pokémon Unite’s Cinderace build guides, in case you fancy playing as the cute yet dangerous, electric-type Pokémon. Oh, and take a peek at our Pokémon Unite special attack guide to learn all about them.

First things first, you must do some farming. Charmander is a relatively weak Pokémon, therefore evolving to Charmeleon as soon as possible is a priority. However, the grind doesn’t stop there. Sure, Charmeleon can put up a fight with a friend, but if this stage two Pokémon gets caught alone, it can cause some problems. So, evolve to Charizard when you can because you will then become one of the most powerful foes on the battlefield.

Pokemon Unite's Charizard

What are Pokémon Unite Charizard’s moves?

Unsurprisingly, Charizard boasts plenty of fire-type moves, some of which inflict pain from a distance, while others require it to get up close and personal. As with any MOBA, you need to choose which moves you use, there’s a range to choose from, all of which favour different builds. As you play, you may wish to swap and change to get a true feel for Charizard and all the Pokémon has to offer, especially since Charizard’s in the unique position of fitting into attack, defence, and support roles.

As we already mentioned, Charizard is not all that threatening in previous evolutions, so bear that in mind when selecting your moveset. However, the Pokémon will cause many problems once on the battlefield, dishing out damage and offering support to teammates.

For this guide, we went with a build focusing on melee combat.

Charizard’s passive ability

Move name Attack type Description
Blaze Passive Once at half HP or less, Charizard’s critical hit rate increases

Charizard’s early game abilities

Given how weak Charmander is, we recommend heading for the jungle section of the map, assuming there’s not a lot of fighting going there. While you’re here, simply farm to get those experience points to move up the evolution tree. However, you must still select an early game ability. So, we suggest thinking long term, especially since you won’t be winning many battles until you reach level nine and introduce Charizard.

We recommend selecting Flame burst out the gate.

Move name Attack type Cooldown Description
Flame burst Area Six seconds Charizard uses a bursting flame that inflicts burn upon the opposition
Fire spin Area Ten seconds Charizard traps enemies in a fire vortex, it decreases movement speed for a short period of time

Charizard’s mid-game abilities

At this point, you should evolve into Charmeleon, meaning encounters with the enemy team won’t be quite so scary, assuming you have a friend nearby. Again, going at things from a duo perspective should help you. Just avoid being alone if possible. Much like the early game, we recommend farming so that you can evolve into Charizard, for once that dragon is in the fight, you can do some severe damage.

Charizard is not the fastest Pokémon on the team, so fire punch is a good idea, as the attack allows you to quickly dash forward, or away from, the enemy. In addition, fire punch deals AOE damage, so it’s worth using when in a small crowd. Of course, this also means getting yourself out of trouble when playing as Charmeleon.

Move name Attack type Cooldown Description
Fire punch Dash Six seconds Charizard dashes forward and uses fiery fists to inflict damage, if the opposition is suffering from the burn effect, they sustain more damage
Flamethrower Ranged Six seconds At a distance, Charizard unleashes a line of fire, one that inflicts burn upon those caught in the flames

Charizard’s late-game abilities

Here we go. Now it’s time for you and Charizard to shine. This is your moment. Show everyone why you’re here. If you’re following our guide and chose fire punch previously, we strongly suggest picking flare blitz this time around. Together, these moves create a devastating combo that will have the opposition running for the hills.

It creates quite a devastating melee combo. Flare blitz itself grants Charizard a shield, as well as causing damage to – and displacing – enemies.

Move name Attack type Cooldown Description
Fire blast Area Ten seconds Charizard unleashes a barrage of flames that linger on the ground, continuing to inflict damage upon, and slow, those caught in the fire
Flare blitz Displacement Ten seconds Surging forward, Charizard throws the opposite team, while also receiving a shield.

Charizard’s end game abilities

Charizard’s Unite move is seismic slam. It’s a devastating attack that sees the dragon unleash hell upon a single opponent. This move finishes off the enemy, and good news, the cooldown time on this attack is speedy, meaning Charizard can end the opposition any time.

Move name Attack type Cooldown Description
Seismic slam Sure hit One second Charizard grabs a single foe, flying with them into the before slamming them into the ground.

What are the best held items for Pokémon Unite’s Charizard?

While on the battlefield, Pokémon can carry up to three battle items, so it’s crucial to find the correct ones for your build. Given Charizard is an all-rounder, our recommendations revolve around health, speed, and attack damage.

  • Leftovers

Leftovers give you a hefty boost to HP, turning an already formidable dragon into a damage absorbing machine. And let’s be honest, if you’re playing as Charizard, there’s a good chance the opposing team will target you, so grab that extra health and show them how ferocious you are. Oh, and Leftovers also enable you to recover health, keeping you in the fight that bit longer.

  • Float Stone

Float like a Butterfree and sting like a Beedrill with the Float Stone. This item gives you a boost to both movement speed – in and out of combat – and attack damage. Charizard hits hard. We all know this, but it’s also a slow mover, so any boost to his movement speed is a huge help.

  • Scope Lens

A critical hit from Charizard is likely to cause some serious damage, but what would boosting it do? Well, it could well wipe out an opponent on the spot. So, equip the Scope Lens, and see Charizard’s critical hit damage increase from basic attacks – the higher his attack stat, the more damage increases.

  • Rocky Helmet

Chances are the opposing team will gang up on Charizard, so why not throw some of that damage back? When using the Rocky Helmet, the Pokémon reflects a certain percentage of harm to the enemy after sustaining enough damage.

What is the best battle item for Pokémon Unite’s Charizard?

  • Eject button

Charizard is a powerful Pokémon, you know this, and your opposition knows this. So, it’s no surprise that it will become a target on the battlefield. Unfortunately, it also happens to be more of a slow mover, which means it could be overwhelmed when low on health. But not to worry, using the Eject Button teleports Charizard somewhere else, giving you either breathing room or the ability to close down an opponent.

  • Goal Accelerator

If you fancy being more of a points scorer than an enemy vanquisher, perhaps you should use Goal Accelerator, which doubles the speed of scoring goals for a short period. However, do bear in mind that it takes two minutes to regenerate.

Who does Pokémon Unite’s Charizard work well with?

  • Pikachu

A formidable duo, when Pikachu and Charizard perform combos together, it has the opposition running. This is a team that the enemy doesn’t want to deal with.

  • Alolan Ninetails

Fire and ice. This formidable duo can cause some harm to the opposing team. Ninetales, through its freezing abilities, can stun enemies, leaving them vulnerable to the wrath of Charizard.
