Is there a new Kirby game in 2024?

We all want a new Kirby game in 2024, but let’s take a look at how likely that is by diving into potential gameplay, platforms, and more.

New kirby game: Kirby leaping in the air in front of a city overrun with grass and trees

New Kirby game. Those three words are pretty exciting, right? Any time the Pink Puffball goes on an adventure, you know you’re in for a good time. Some of my earliest gaming memories involve this little guy, with his games spanning across many Nintendo consoles, including the Game Boy, NES, N64, Nintendo DS, Wii, 3DS, and, of course, the Nintendo Switch.

Mind you, as exciting as the idea of a new Kirby game is, it’s not the only one I’m holding out hope for, as I also want to see a new Resident Evil game, new Tomb Raider game, new Animal Crossing game, and new FNAF game. At least there’s the new Sonic game and a new Harry Potter game to look forward to if nothing comes from those franchises in 2024.

Is there a new Kirby game in 2024?

Currently, there’s no word on the release of a new Kirby game in 2024. Typically, Kirby does tend to pop up at least once most years, even showing up twice in 2022 with Dream Buffet and Forgotten Land, which we scored an eight and a ten, respectively, in our Kirby’s Dream Buffet review and Kirby and the Forgotten Land review. Clearly, the PT crew are huge fans of the Pink Puffball, so you can be sure we’ll keep an eye out for word on the next Kirby game.

If we’re being honest, it wouldn’t surprise us to discover that 2023’s Return to Dream Land is the last Kirby adventure on Switch, given that the Nintendo Switch 2 looks to be on the horizon. Still, stranger things have happened, so who knows? Plus, Nintendo is likely to release games across platforms for at least a little while when the new console finally releases, especially with new leaks suggesting the Switch 2 will have backwards compatibility.

New Kirby game platforms

Logic dictates that the only platforms Kirby will show up on are the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2, as Kirby is a Nintendo IP, and the Japanese company is never going to allow the little guy to show up on Xbox, PC, or PlayStation. As for mobile gamers, Kirby doesn’t have an Android or iOS game yet, and we can’t see that changing any time soon – Nintendo doesn’t appear to be in a hurry to bring more of its IPs to mobile. Still, should that change, we’ll be sure to let you know.

What will the new Kirby game be like?

Based on previous Kirby games, it feels safe to assume that you can likely expect to have a grand old time with a solid action-platformer in which you get to traverse various areas, explore different locations, and swallow everything you can possibly fit your mouth around.

You can likely expect to see some puzzles, either some side-scrolling or 3D action, and combat that encompasses beat ‘em up elements. The only thing we can say for sure is that the next Kirby game is bound to be full of fun. Who knows, instead of a mainline entry, we might get another spin-off, as Kirby already has pinball and racing games to his name.

New Kirby game release date speculation

We can’t even begin to guess the release date for a new Kirby game, so we won’t. All we can say is that we’ll keep an eye out and update you as soon as we have any news.

That concludes everything we can tell you about a new Kirby game. If you want to show your love for the Nintendo mascot, check out our Kirby plush and Kirby wallpaper guides. We even have a Kirby characters list detailing all of the important faces you come across throughout the series.
