What is a Resident Evil Hunter?

Resident Evil Hunters are an enemy type. Like most ghastly beings in this world, they’re a creation of Umbrella and are highly efficient killing machines. Umbrella first began work on the Hunter line in 1981, though it would take years for them to be ready for combat. Overall, there are three different types of Resident Evil Hunter:

  • Hunter Alpha
  • Hunter Beta
  • Hunter Gamma

Hunter Alpha

The Alpha variation of the Resident Evil Hunter is quite a fearsome foe that has a great chance of ending the life of those it comes across. If we look at Resident Evil in order, it’s Resident Evil’s Rebecca and Billy Coen that first encounter one back in 1998 during the events of Resident Evil 0. However, Jill and Chris must also face these horrifying creatures when Albert Wesker lets them loose in the Spencer Mansion during the very first Resident Evil game.

Hunter Beta

While the Hunter Alpha type is a hard hitter in combat, the Beta variation gives up some offensive power in exchange for greater speed, meaning they’re more agile and harder to avoid when in a fight with one. Unfortunately for Resident Evil’s Carlos, during the Raccoon City outbreak in 1998, he has to face his fair share of these creatures in the Spencer Memorial Hospital after they choose to make it their nesting grounds.

Hunter Gamma

One look at a Hunter Gamma is enough to have anybody running away in fear. However, this line of Resident Evil Hunters are failures in the eyes of Umbrella, resulting in their disposal. One scientist didn’t share these views and thus relocated some to the sewers beneath Raccoon City in hopes of training them. Unsurprisingly, these creatures are responsible for the deaths of many sewer workers, but the likes of Claire, Leon, and Jill put them down on their trips through the sewers in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3.

How do I kill a Resident Evil Hunter?

Though they’re intimidating, Resident Evil Hunters do have some weaknesses that you can use to your advantage. First and foremost, make the most out of your trusty firearms – though you preferably want something with more of a kick than a handgun. The head is a weak spot for all variants (though the Betas do have armor on their heads that you need to remove).

The mandibles are also a weak point for Hunters, even more so should you use acid and flame ammunition. With all of that in mind, you should be able to bring down any Hunter that you come across.
